How to Brew Loose-Leaf Green Tea Without Bitterness
Green tea is made from the leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant and is known for its delicate, grassy character. Because green tea is more sensitive to heat than many black and herbal teas, water temperature and steeping time can significantly influence the final flavour. Beyond Essentials Plus recommends using approximately one teaspoon of loose-leaf green tea per cup.
Heat your water to approximately 80°C rather than allowing it to remain at a full boil. Pour it over the leaves and steep for two to three minutes before removing the infuser. A shorter steep produces a lighter cup, while adding slightly more tea can create a stronger flavour without introducing the bitterness caused by oversteeping. Enjoy it warm, chilled, or with a small amount of honey or lemon.
