Green Tea

Botanical Name: Camellia sinensis

Origin: Ancient China; now grown in Japan, Korea, India, Sri Lanka, and various subtropical regions

A Legacy of Wellness and Clarity

Green Tea is a time-honored beverage made from the unoxidized leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant. Unlike black tea, green tea undergoes minimal processing, preserving its natural antioxidants, vibrant green color, and delicate, grassy flavor. Celebrated for centuries as a drink of balance, focus, and longevity, green tea remains a cornerstone of health-conscious lifestyles across the globe.

History of Green Tea

The origins of green tea date back more than 4,000 years to ancient China, where it was first used as a medicinal tonic. Chinese Emperor Shennong is believed to have discovered tea around 2737 BCE, when leaves from a tea plant accidentally drifted into his boiling water.

By the Tang Dynasty (618–907), tea culture flourished, spreading to Japan via Buddhist monks who embraced green tea for its meditative and restorative properties. The Japanese later refined green tea cultivation into art forms like matcha and sencha. Over time, green tea became a daily ritual in Asian households and gained global popularity for its health benefits and antioxidant profile.

Different Usages of Green Tea

  •              Culinary Ingredient – Green tea can be used in smoothies, baking, salad dressings, or enjoyed as matcha for a richer flavor and nutrient boost.
  •               Digestive & Immune Support – Its natural antioxidants, such as catechins and EGCG, support the body’s immune system and digestive wellness.
